LOCAL TREE CARE FOR BENTLEIGH PROPERTIES
Professional tree care for Bentleigh homes from Centre Road and Bentleigh station to Patterson and Tucker Road
Bentleigh sits inland of Brighton East, between Thomas Street and Tucker Road, McKinnon and South Road. Glen Eira City Council, postcode 3204. That is not Brighton East, and it is not Bentleigh East.
There is no beach here. Centre Road is the high street — shops, the 703 bus, and Bentleigh station on the Frankston line. Around the station and Jasper Road you get a mix of house lots, units and townhouses. Further south, Patterson station and the Patterson Road shops sit at this end of the suburb. Tucker Road is the Bentleigh East boundary. Thomas Street is the Brighton East boundary — and the council change.
Brighton East is the next suburb west — Bayside City Council, a different Local Law, with a full guide. Bentleigh East sits across Tucker Road — same Glen Eira council, different suburb, postcode 3165. McKinnon sits north — same council, same 3204. Hampton East sits further south-west across South Road — that is Bayside again.
Bayside Trees is based in Black Rock. We work the Centre Road and station streets, the unit and townhouse blocks, the Patterson end, and the Tucker Road and Thomas Street edges. We look at the tree, the access and what sits under it, then recommend pruning, removal, monitoring or stump grinding. This page is Bentleigh — not Brighton East, and not Bentleigh East.
Send a clear photo of the tree, what sits around it and the way in from the street using the form on this page, or text it to 0402 080 770.
COMPLETE TREE SERVICES IN BENTLEIGH
Professional Arborist Services for Local Properties
Six services for the Centre Road and station streets, the house lots and unit blocks, and the Patterson and Tucker Road edges.
Tree Removal
Most removals here are sectional. On a house lot, trees sit over roofs, fences, driveways and neighbours. On a unit or townhouse block they sit over courtyards, new slabs and tight side paths. We climb, rig and lower — we do not drop a tree through a backyard.
Tree Pruning
On the house streets the job is often clearance over roofs, driveways and neighbouring living spaces. On a unit or reno lot it is structure and a smaller sail before the build. On Centre Road and the station streets, parking and tighter kerbside space change how we set up. Roofs and neighbouring living spaces come first.
Stump Grinding
We grind the stump below ground so the patch can be turfed, planted or paved. On a family lot or a unit site we check whether the grinder can reach a rear-yard stump or needs a longer carry from the street.
Hedge Trimming
Privacy screens on the tighter unit and townhouse blocks need a regular, even cut. We trim for height, density and path clearance, then take the clippings.
Palm Tree Services
Palms sit on a lot of inland house and unit lots — this suburb does not have a beach of its own, but the palms are still here. Dead fronds and seed pods over roofs, yards and paving. We clean, reduce or remove the palm and take the material with us.
Green Waste Removal
Storm limbs, hedge arisings and leftover timber. On Centre Road, Jasper Road, South Road and the Nepean Highway we check whether the chipper can sit kerbside; otherwise we carry and cart.
We also provide supporting services including arborist reports, tree cutting, tree lopping, cabling and bracing, land and site clearing, wood chipping, firewood cutting and urgent tree assistance.
LOCAL TREE KNOWLEDGE IN BENTLEIGH
Tree Care Shaped by Centre Road, the Station and Unit Streets
The suburb is not one condition. Centre Road and the station streets, the unit and townhouse blocks, and the Patterson / Tucker Road / Brighton East edges each change how a job is planned.
Centre Road and Bentleigh station
Centre Road is the high street — shops, the station, and a lot of coming and going. Trees on those streets sit over awnings, parked cars and tight side paths. Jasper Road crosses the strip. Those jobs need a plan for parking, a chipper and what sits under the canopy. That is this suburb — not Landcox Park, and not Bentleigh East’s shops further along Centre Road.
Units, townhouses and infill
Inland of Brighton East you get house lots, units and townhouses on the same street. A removal before an extension, a prune over a new garage, a stump so a courtyard can be paved — that is common work here. We look at the tree, the access and what is being built, then recommend the method. Send the address with the photo so we can check VicPlan.
Patterson, Tucker Road and the Brighton East edge
Patterson station and the Patterson Road shops sit at the south end. Tucker Road is Bentleigh East — same Glen Eira council, different suburb (3165). Thomas Street is Brighton East — that side is Bayside, and the Local Law changes from 140 cm to 155 cm. On South Road and the Nepean Highway we check whether the chipper can sit kerbside, or whether the only way in is a side path and a carry. This page is still Bentleigh, postcode 3204.
WHY BENTLEIGH HOMEOWNERS CHOOSE BAYSIDE TREES
Local Arborists Who Know the Area
Local — from Black Rock
We are not a Bentleigh shopfront. We are a Black Rock team, founded by Chris Garbacz, that works these streets often enough to know the Centre Road pinch, the station-street setup, and when a unit side path will not take a truck.
Careful work around homes and outdoor areas
Our arborists plan each job around roofs, driveways, fences, side paths, unit courtyards and neighbouring properties. Where branches cannot be dropped, they are rigged and lowered under control.
Clear quotes, complete clean-up, insured and reviewed
We agree the scope up front, keep you informed, and take the agreed timber and green waste with us. Bayside Trees carries $20 million public liability and is trusted by more than 300 five-star Google reviewers.
BENTLEIGH TREE PERMITS
Check what applies before you take a tree out or take a lot of canopy off
Bentleigh is Glen Eira City Council (postcode 3204). Brighton East, next suburb west, is Bayside (postcode 3187) — a different Local Law. Bentleigh East, next suburb east across Tucker Road, is the same Glen Eira council but a different suburb (postcode 3165).
There is no suburb-wide Vegetation Protection Overlay on a typical private house lot here — Glen Eira’s named VPO sits on parkland in Murrumbeena, not on this suburb. Work can still need a planning permit, a Glen Eira Local Law permit, or both. A tree on the Classified Tree Register needs its own check. Send the address so we check the right council and the right rule.
Large canopy trees
On a house lot the statewide canopy rule (Clause 52.37, from 15 September 2025) usually means a large tree on the front or rear boundary: more than 5 m tall, trunk more than 50 cm around at 1.4 m up, canopy at least 4 m across. Glen Eira’s page puts that on vacant residential land, or within 6 m of the street frontage or 5 m of the rear boundary. Check VicPlan for the address.
Glen Eira Local Law
The usual size trigger is a tree taller than 5 metres with a single or combined trunk 140 centimetres or more at 140 centimetres (1.4 m) above ground — not Bayside’s 155 cm at 1 m. A palm taller than 8 metres, or a stump 140 centimetres or more at ground, can also qualify. Leaf litter, views and shade are not a free pass.
Street trees belong to Council — call (03) 9524 3333.
How we can help
We measure on site and can arrange an arborist report. You lodge the application and stay the permit holder. We cannot promise an approval.

COMMON QUESTIONS FROM BENTLEIGH CUSTOMERS
Bentleigh Tree Service FAQs
1. Do you work throughout Bentleigh?
Yes. Bayside Trees is based in Black Rock and regularly works throughout Bentleigh — the Centre Road shops and station streets, the house lots and unit blocks toward McKinnon, the Patterson station end, and the Tucker Road edge into Bentleigh East. This page is Bentleigh, not Brighton East and not Bentleigh East.
2. Can you quote from photos?
Yes, in most cases. A first price usually needs photos of the whole tree, the trunk, what sits beside it, and the way in from the street. A large tree, a tight unit side path, or a Centre Road or station street that will not take a chipper may still need a visit.
3. Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Bentleigh?
It depends. Bentleigh is Glen Eira City Council, postcode 3204 — not Bayside. There is no suburb-wide Vegetation Protection Overlay here. The statewide canopy rule (Clause 52.37) can still apply to a large tree on the front or rear boundary. Glen Eira’s Local Law can cover a tree taller than 5 metres whose trunk is 140 centimetres or more at 1.4 metres (single or combined), a palm taller than 8 metres, a stump 140 centimetres or more at ground, a tree on the Classified Tree Register, or a tree planted as a condition of an earlier permit. That is not Bayside’s 155 centimetres at 1 metre — that rule is Brighton East, next suburb west. If planning rules already protect the tree, that process applies instead of the Local Law. You check and get any permit before we start. Check VicPlan for the address.
4. Is Bentleigh the same as Brighton East or Bentleigh East?
No. Brighton East is the next suburb west — Bayside City Council, postcode 3187, Landcox Park and family lots, Local Law 155 cm at 1 m. Bentleigh East is the next suburb east across Tucker Road — same Glen Eira council, different suburb, postcode 3165. McKinnon sits north and shares 3204 with Bentleigh; it is still its own suburb. Bentleigh is the Centre Road / station suburb, postcode 3204, with house lots, units and townhouses. We work in all of them; send a photo and the suburb name so the quote is for the right address.
5. Who looks after street and nature-strip trees?
Glen Eira City Council owns street and nature-strip trees in Bentleigh. Residents must not prune or remove a street tree. If a street tree is a concern, call Glen Eira on (03) 9524 3333.
6. Can you work around units, townhouses and Centre Road streets?
Yes. Around Centre Road and Bentleigh station the streets are a mix of house lots, units and shopfronts — trees over roofs and side paths, and a chipper plan. On a unit or townhouse block the lots are tighter and the tree often sits over a courtyard or a future slab. On South Road and the Nepean Highway we check whether the chipper can sit kerbside. We plan those as climbing and rigging work, and we check whether the chipper or grinder can sit on the street or needs a longer carry.
7. Can you help with measurements and an arborist report?
Yes. We can measure height, trunk circumference and canopy spread on site, and arrange a written arborist report when Council wants supporting documents. We do not lodge the application, and we cannot promise an approval. The owner lodges and holds the permit.
8. How much does tree work cost in Bentleigh?
It depends on size, condition, how we get to the tree, what sits under it, and how much material comes out. A unit side path, a townhouse courtyard, and a longer carry off Centre Road or a station street often change the method, and the price with it. Send clear photos and the property address for a quote.
