LOCAL TREE CARE FOR HIGHETT PROPERTIES

Professional tree care for Highett homes from the station and Highett Road to both sides of the Bayside–Kingston line

Highett sits inland of Hampton and Sandringham, just north of Cheltenham. It is split across two councils, postcode 3190. West of the Frankston railway is usually Bayside. East of the railway is usually Kingston. That is not Cheltenham, and it is not Sandringham.

Highett station sits on Railway Parade. The shop strip sits on Highett Road and crosses the railway. Around the station and the strip you get shops, townhouses and tighter access. Further out toward Bluff Road, Sandringham and Hampton the streets are ordinary house lots.

Cheltenham is the next suburb south and east and has a full guide. Sandringham and Hampton sit immediately west — both Bayside. Hampton East sits immediately north.

Bayside Trees is based in Black Rock. We work the station streets, the Highett Road blocks, and the house streets out toward Sandringham and Hampton. We look at the tree, the access and what sits under it, then recommend pruning, removal, monitoring or stump grinding. This page is Highett — not Cheltenham, and not Sandringham.

COMPLETE TREE SERVICES IN HIGHETT

Professional Arborist Services for Local Properties

Six services for the station and Highett Road streets, the townhouse blocks, and the house streets out toward Sandringham and Hampton. From routine pruning and hedge maintenance to complex removals and arborist reports, Bayside Trees provides a full range of professional tree services across Highett, with clear advice and complete green waste removal.

Tree Removal

Most removals here are sectional. Around the station and Highett Road, trees sit over shops, townhouses, shared drives and tight side paths. On the house streets they sit over roofs, fences and neighbours. We climb, rig and lower — we do not drop a tree through a backyard.

Tree Pruning

Around the station and the strip the job is often clearance over roofs, courtyards and neighbouring shops. Further out it is structure and a smaller sail over house lots. Roofs and neighbouring living spaces come first.

Stump Grinding

We grind the stump below ground so the patch can be turfed, planted or paved. On a tight street near the station or Highett Road we check whether the grinder can reach a rear-yard stump or needs a longer carry from the street.

Hedge Trimming

Privacy screens on the streets around the station and Highett Road need a regular, even cut. We trim for height, density and path clearance, then take the clippings.

Palm Tree Services

Dead fronds and seed pods over roofs, yards and paving. We clean, reduce or remove the palm and take the material with us.

Green Waste Removal

Storm limbs, hedge arisings and leftover timber. On Highett Road, Railway Parade, Graham Road and Wickham Road we check whether the chipper can sit kerbside; otherwise we carry and cart.

LOCAL TREE KNOWLEDGE IN HIGHETT

Tree Care Shaped by the Station, Highett Road and the Bayside–Kingston Split

The suburb is not one condition. The station streets, the denser blocks, and the Bayside–Kingston split each change how a job is planned.

Highett station and Highett Road

Highett station sits on Railway Parade. The shop strip sits on Highett Road and crosses the railway. That is this suburb — not Cheltenham’s Southland mix, and not a generic infill page. Trees around the centre sit over shops, townhouses and neighbouring lots. Those jobs need a plan for parking, a chipper and what sits under the canopy.

Denser housing

Around the station and the strip the lots are tighter — units, townhouses, shared drives. Further out toward Sandringham, Hampton and Bluff Road the streets open into ordinary house lots. Trees still sit over roofs and neighbours. That is a climb-and-rig job, not a drop.

The Bayside–Kingston split

Highett is two councils. West of the Frankston railway — toward Sandringham and Hampton — is usually Bayside. East of the railway — toward Cheltenham and Nepean Highway — is usually Kingston. Cheltenham starts immediately south and east. Hampton East starts immediately north. We work all of them; this page is Highett. Send the address with the photo so the quote is for the right council.

WHY HIGHETT HOMEOWNERS CHOOSE BAYSIDE TREES

Local Arborists Who Know the Area

Local — from Black Rock

We are not a Highett shopfront. We are a Black Rock team, founded by Chris Garbacz, that works these streets often enough to know the station pinch, the Highett Road blocks, and when a side path will not take a truck.

Careful work around homes and outdoor areas

Our arborists plan each job around roofs, driveways, fences, side paths, courtyards, shopfronts and neighbouring properties. Where branches cannot be dropped, they are rigged and lowered under control.

Clear quotes, complete clean-up, insured and reviewed

We agree the scope up front, keep you informed, and take the agreed timber and green waste with us. Bayside Trees carries $20 million public liability and is trusted by more than 300 five-star Google reviewers.

HIGHETT TREE PERMITS

Check what applies before you take a tree out or take a lot of canopy off

Highett sits in two councils (postcode 3190). West of the Frankston railway — toward Sandringham and Hampton — is usually Bayside City. East of the railway — toward Cheltenham and Nepean Highway — is usually City of Kingston. The shop strip on Highett Road crosses that line. Send the address with the photo so we know which council you are in.

On either side, two things can apply. A statewide canopy rule (Clause 52.37, from 15 September 2025) can catch a large tree on the front or rear boundary. The Local Law then depends on the street. No suburb-wide Vegetation Protection Overlay has been verified for Highett on either side.

Large boundary canopy trees

On a house lot this usually means a large canopy tree on the front or rear boundary: more than 5 m tall, trunk more than 50 cm around at 1.4 m up, canopy at least 4 m across. A vacant lot can catch any canopy tree.

Bayside Local Law — usually west of the railway

The usual size trigger is a single or combined trunk greater than 155 centimetres at 1 metre above ground. For a multi-trunk tree, add the four largest trunks.

Kingston Local Law — usually east of the railway

The usual size trigger is a trunk greater than 110 centimetres at the base. Multi-stemmed trees are measured at the base. Leaf litter, views and shade are not accepted reasons.

Street trees belong to the council that owns that street — call (03) 9599 4444 on a Bayside street, or Kingston Vegetation Officers on 1300 653 356. Check VicPlan for overlays on the address.

How we can help

We measure on site and can arrange an arborist report. You lodge the application and stay the permit holder. We cannot promise an approval.

Chris was a great listener and heard my concerns with a neighbours tree. He was able to talk to the neighbour and get permission to trim it down to a satisfactory height that would not impact my solar panels. His men were punctual, efficient and cleaned up the area. Overall an easy experience- no drama. I would definitely use Bayside Trees again.

COMMON QUESTIONS FROM HIGHETT CUSTOMERS

Highett Tree Service FAQs

1. Do you work throughout Highett?

Yes. Bayside Trees is based in Black Rock and regularly works throughout Highett — the streets around Highett station and Highett Road, the townhouse and unit blocks, the house streets out toward Sandringham and Hampton, and both sides of the railway. This page is Highett, not Cheltenham and not Sandringham.

2. Can you quote from photos?

Yes, in most cases. A first price usually needs photos of the whole tree, the trunk, what sits beside it, and the way in from the street. A large tree, a tight side path, or a street near the station or Highett Road that will not take a chipper may still need a visit.

3. Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Highett?

It depends on the address. Highett sits in two councils. West of the Frankston railway is usually Bayside; east of the railway is usually Kingston. The statewide canopy rule (Clause 52.37) can apply on either side to a large tree on the front or rear boundary. On a Bayside street the Local Law can also cover a tree whose single or combined trunk is greater than 155 centimetres at 1 metre, a multi-trunk tree (add the four largest trunks), or a tree planted as a condition of an earlier permit. On a Kingston street the Local Law can cover a tree whose trunk is greater than 110 centimetres at the base, a multi-stemmed tree measured at the base, or a tree planted as a condition of an earlier permit. If planning rules already protect the tree, that process applies instead of the Local Law. You check and get any permit before we start. Send the address with the photo so we know which council you are in.

4. Is Highett the same as Cheltenham, Sandringham or Hampton?

No. Cheltenham is the next suburb south and east — mostly Kingston, Southland and a station of its own. Sandringham is the next suburb west — Bayside, toward the bay. Hampton is the next suburb west and north-west — also Bayside. Highett is inland, denser around the station and Highett Road, and split across both councils. We work in all of them; send a photo and the suburb name so the quote is for the right address.

5. Who looks after street and nature-strip trees?

It depends on the street. On a Bayside street, Bayside City Council owns street and nature-strip trees. Call (03) 9599 4444. On a Kingston street, Kingston City Council owns them. Call Kingston Vegetation Officers on 1300 653 356. Residents must not prune or remove a street tree. Send the address if you are unsure which side you are on.

6. Can you work around the station streets, townhouses and both council sides?

Yes. Around Highett station and Highett Road the lots are tighter — shops, townhouses, shared drives and a chipper plan. Further out toward Sandringham and Hampton the streets are ordinary house lots. We still check which council the address is in. We plan those as climbing and rigging work, and we check whether the chipper or grinder can sit on the street or needs a longer carry.

7. Can you help with measurements and an arborist report?

Yes. We can measure height, trunk circumference and canopy spread on site, and arrange a written arborist report when Council wants supporting documents. We do not lodge the application, and we cannot promise an approval. The owner lodges and holds the permit.

8. How much does tree work cost in Highett?

It depends on size, condition, how we get to the tree, what sits under it, and how much material comes out. A tight street near the station or Highett Road, a townhouse or unit block, and a longer carry on a house lot often change the method, and the price with it. Send clear photos and the property address for a quote.
